Ewen, MI to Tourist Park Campground in Marquette, MI
I really started slow today. I'm on breakfast set up duty but was only a minute or so late. We got all the food out in a few minutes, quick enough that breakfast even started early. Because today was around 160k (near 100miles) we started a half hour early morning this means regular breakfast from 6:30-7am is moved to 6-6:30am. The route opens immediately after breakfast and our morning prayer.
William let me go off early because I knew I'd be slow and he knew he could catch up. I I slugged out the first 71k at about 22km/hr by stustainable pedaling. I didn't want to push myself and I felt tired. My eyes wanted to droop closed. While sitting at the third rest stop (71k) William, Caleb, and also Frank caught up to me. I started slightly behind them and they easily got ahead of me. It was at around 75km that I got stung by a bee in the butt. The bee had gotten caught up the legs of my shorts and likely angered by the pumping of my leg. He stung and boy oh boy did it hurt. I coasted and pedaled light till the sharp pain subsided. Wether it was that sting of the bee, the three cookies I had eaten shortly before, or the wind picking up right about then, I was able to go faster. My average jumped from 22km to around 30km and faster as I caught up to first Frank, and then Caleb and William. I felt strong again and able to really move along. William latched on with me and we went hard till about 150km where we eased off, or rather I eased off and he went ahead.
McDonald's was a great stop to make. William and I got Mcflurries and Caleb did too when he arrived. We all got soda's. Frank arrived and got a iced mocha of sorts. A fellow rider, Bridgette offered to buy ice cream cones so Caleb and I opted in. It really was amazing how much sugar I filled my belly with at the McDonald's after a Mcflurry, two sodas, and a soft serve cone.
Despite these calories and so many others I've maintained a completely normal body weight. I've gained ten pounds to be honest, but it has not been in fatty tissue. William has lost about 25lb, Frank has lost over 30lb, and Caleb has gained a few pounds.
Caleb and I found a skatepark in Marquette. It's known as a skate plaza, which mostly means a skate park with less ramps or flatter.
Rain rolled in around 6:30pm after supper. Rain meant a quick pack up of the meeting about tomorrow and people getting in their tents. I went off to Culver's to enjoy some ice cream. I went for the kids meal option and brought sundaes back to camp for my parents.
